Notes Volumes XXI and XXVII have some slight damage to the green labels. All volumes and a little faded, rubbed to edges and slight scuffed to surfaces. Text is clean to all volumes. All bindings are clean and sound.

Description

Hardback. Six volumes. Illustrated Victorian periodical edited by the novelist Ellen Wood better known as Mrs Henry Wood (1814-1887). Half bound in red leather with raised bands to spine. Green leather labels with gilt titles also to spine with gilt border lining and gilt decoration to the bands. Marbled papers to the boards. Illustrated by M. Ellen Edwards. Mainly fiction but includes a long piece on the coast of Devon and Cornwall, with 16 illustrations, by Charles Wood who went on to be the editor after his mother’s death; he also provides travelogues of Holland and Norway. Other contributors include the Irish novelist Julia Kavanagh.
