Cream cloth is much darkened to spine but less so to the still very attractive front. Softened to spine ends and with a little rubbing to corner tips. Scattered foxing throughout. Faint water stain to lower edges causing some page crinkling. Some light tanning to pages. Sound, square tight copy of this attractive volume. |

Hardback. First edition. Illustrated biography of the painter by his grandson the novelist better known as Ford Madox Ford. 'Ford Madox Brown was a Pre-Raphaelite painter of moral and historical subjects. His most famous paintings/works include Work, and The Manchester Murals (painted for Manchester Town Hall).' Cream cloth. Very pretty Victorian Arts and Crafts style binding colour illustrated to front by possibly by Walter Crane but more probably by William Harrison Cowlishaw [Arts and Crafts Book Covers by Malcolm Haslem, p.94] with tree and foliage design elaborately around a title panel in red, green, blue and gilt. gilt decorative titles to spine. 46 plates with tissue guards (printed with painting titles and possession details) and seven further integral illustrations.
