Hardback. 463pp. Edited by Alice Holtby (Winifred’s mother) and Jean McWilliam. Reprint. The letters Winifred wrote to her friend, Jean McWilliam, headmistress of a school in Pretoria. Winifred Holtby met Jean McWilliam in the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps in 1918 In their letters they referred to each other as Rosalind (Jean) & Celia (Winifred) after the cousins in Shakespeare's As You Like It. The correspondence begins in 1920 when Winifred is at Somerville College, Oxford and Jean is teaching in South Africa and the last is dated June 1935, 3 months before Winifred’s death. Preface by ‘Rosalind’, Jean Mcwilliam.
